Some Business

I get over 1000 spam comments every single day.

Most are harmless ads for casinos or fake “supplements” but many others are filthy and vile. I am sickened with the barrage of comments advertising sites dedicated to violence against women and the exploitation of children. I’ve set up measures to deal with the spam and none of it ever gets posted to my site. It goes to a spam holding tank that I empty out several times a day.

I also have my site set up to hold comments in a moderation queue if they contain links or if they are from a person who has not previously commented on my site.

Unfortunately from time to time comments from real people are sent all the way to my spam box. For some reason or other, the Askimet spam filter decides that your comments “look” like spam. Not wanting to read through 1000+ spam comments every day in search of real comments that have been accidentally mixed in, I just let them go until you let me know that your comments are being deleted.

Heth, Antique Mommy and Not Too Pensive have all done this and I’m grateful because I love hearing from them.

I never delete a comment from an actual person unless it is purposefully inflammatory, malicious, or foul in nature. When I do delete a comment, I always leave an explanation in its place. So, if you notice that your comments are not showing up – with no explanation from me – send me an email and I’ll dig through the garbage pile and authorize you to comment in the future.

Let’s face it. Frequently the comments are the most entertaining part of this blog. I don’t want to miss what you have to say.

I intend no slur against my fellow commenters, but you, babe, are the star of the show here. I wish I had something stupendous to say here, so people who come after me will look up with awe and say, “Yeah…she’d be worth slogging through the spam for.” =P

You totally have to watch out for Antique Mommy. She spams EVERYONE. Darn spammer. In fact, I had to resort to spamming HER with some 1970s catalog men just to get my point across. Sheesh. Some people.

I think that if your “spammy” commenters register on the blog, too, that will prevent their comments from being thrown into the bad pile. At least, that’s what I’ve had a few commenters on my site do.

Yay! I can comment again. I promise I wasn’t trying to spam. Well, actually, I had these supplements I thought you might be interested in…… *grin*

yeah that Antique Mommy, you really have to watch out for her! 😉

If you have the problem with certain real people always being sent to spam you can add them to you list of moderated comments, so they will show up there instead. Much better than weeding through all the awful spam

Yikes, I can’t imagine getting all that yucky mail. I’m sorry. 🙁
