Today was Saturday.
We did some things.
My friend moved to Germany and left behind this gorgeous wreath and Dan let me claim it and bring it home even though he thinks it looks a bit like a ball of hair in a shower drain. To me it looks like beautiful funky nature.
I like it so much that I drove 10mph all the way home holding the wreath outside my car window to avoid cramming it into the car and breaking it. My hand may need to be amputated from freezation but at least I’ll have a pretty wall to look at while I recover from surgery.
Laylee’s been working hard to integrate “Big Miffy” into our family and it seems that Miffy is getting along just fine.
She thinks safety is the best policy and always buckles up.
Her face looks like it was MADE for the window in our Little Tikes castle.
She never complains about what I feed her.
She does all her homework without getting any marker on herself or others.
While Miffy worked scrubbing the bathrooms, I ran off to a local antique store where I found these adorable milk glass snack plates and cups and the vintage cloth napkins they’re sitting on. While I was in the store, my thoughts were never far from my antiques guru Karen. I kept thinking, “What would Karen do? What would Karen buy? Would Karen think I looked good in this vintage Smurf hat?”
At dinner tonight we were talking about manners and Dan began to demonstrate good posture. “Wow,” said Laylee, “You’re sitting really straight.”
She sat up a little taller.
“Look. I’m straight too.”
She looked at me.
“You’re pretty straight Mom, except for your breasts.”
We played outside in the sun and in the rain, sometimes simultaneously.
And then I had a culinary festival of poserhood and baked my own granola! I can finally hold my head up high in Seattle.
And then I wrote about it all on the internet.
And then I went to bed.
Laylee really does call him “Big Miffy”. So funny.
When I saw the Miffy in the little tikes window, my first thought was, “Wow. How did they stuff that entire Miffy doll inside a toilet?”
Those cups and plates are adorable.
I have serious milk glass envy.
I never dreamt I’d write a sentence such as that last one, by the way.
LOVE that milk glass. Good purchase.
And as much as I love you, I think I have to side with Dan on the wreath. Maybe if you hot glued some berries to it….?
Sounds like a full day all right! Loved the photos, although I do have to say the one of Big Miffy looking out of the Little Tykes castle? It looks like she is looking out from a toilet bowl. It startled me at first, because I couldn’t figure out what she was doing in a toilet and how she would fit.
Freezation is my favorite word.
I love your beautiful funky nature. (Not yours. The wreath’s. I like you, too.) I have something similar above our mantle.
I’m so impressed you can hold that wreath, drive AND take a picture. What a woman!
Karen would have bought the milk glass snack sets too. They are FABULOUS!
“Straight, except for your breasts” … Hilarity!
And I, too, am in the camp that thought Big Miffy was in a toilet. I’m SO GLAD for the caption. ^_^
I’m so glad you wrote about your day – it was very entertaining! I love the wreath and I love the sitting up straight story. haha!
if I ever need a reminder about why I read your blog, this post would be it. Absolutely classic DYM.
Posing stuffed animals for our amusement – above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks for the much needed laugh :>
way to go on the milk-glass, really cute. And that wreath, well, I have a similar one that we moved from SLC to ID. I don’t know how it survived the moving truck. And, granola, well, yummy! And I don’t even have a local Whole Foods at which to pose. But I do live near Yellowstone National park…does that count?
10 mph while holding it out the window?! That is true love for home dec.
The granola looks delicious – with a very artistic culinary photo, too!
The whole day sounds jam-packed with fun. But I like the going to bed part the best! I must be tired or something. (BTW, I’d drink out of those glasses any old day.)
I love that funky hairball of nature 🙂
My kids would never tell me the “straight, except for your breasts” line. There’s a reason for it.
And when you talked about posture, it worked subliminally for me. I sat up straight too. Good modeling!
I like your hairball and sunny/rainy day.
Big Miffy… she looks tired. You should give her a vacation or something.
Ha Ha! First I’m laughing because when that “wreath” was offered to the public I thought…??? No one will claim that! But your picture is much better of it than Nancy’s. And then the comment about your breasts. Like salt in a wound LAYLEE! Tee heee.
BTW, Laylee actually put him in all those places. I think one of the pictures was re-enacted after Laylee went to bed, though, because we hadn’t snapped a picture in time.
Hot diggity, granola! I’ve been scoping out nearby natural food stores lately (especially the variety with bulk bins) and want to try making granola. You wouldn’t happen to feel like sharing your recipe, would you? 😉
i love the miffy pics! and i love homemade granola. it’s on my list to make this week. i like adding dried fruit after i bake it–this week i got a mix from costco with cranberries, blueberries, cherries, and prunes. add some granola in the form of almonds, pecans, oats, and some honey . . . yum.
Miffy is so photogenic. Seriously. It makes me want to run out and buy one just for the pictures.
This is such a funny, funny post.
And now I want a Giant Miffy, too.
I was looking at the picture of your wreath and my three year-old son Jack asked “Mom, is that hair?”
