Yesterday we had another hair-cutting extravaganza, my first since the mullet incident. At this point the layers have grown out to a length I am more comfortable with and I have learned to listen to my stylist when she tells me a particular cut might end up looking like a mullet. She KNOWS.
I just got a trim but Laylee got the real fun. We decided to give her a fun summer hair-cut. We went with a Julia Roberts in Hook pixie-cut. She was amazingly calm through the razor cut and very excited to tell daddy that she looked like a pixie-fairy-princess girl.
I love the way it turned out but considering her age and lack of womanly curvage, it’s a given that she will be mistaken for a boy at times. I spent the afternoon talking about how she looks like Tinker-bell and what a cute fairy she is.
Then Dad gets home.
Dan: Wow. You got a new hair-do!
Laylee: Yeah!
Dan: What kind of hair-do is it?
Laylee (very excited): It’s a BOY haircut!
At which point, Magoo waved his sweet little girly-finger-wiggling wave from the high chair and I busted up laughing. So our daughter is excited that she could pass for a boy and our son waves “hello” like Paris Hilton. Yippee!
And then in a moment of uncanny timing, a gift arrived in the mail today for Laylee from Peter and Heidi of the Tutu Boutique. Our little princess fairy pixie Tinker-bell got to wear the poofiest, most gorgeous dress-up item she’s ever had on her body and remind herself that she’s still a girly girl.
A while back I mentioned their business on the site because I like them, expecting nothing in return. Then they sent this “poof” and a fun princess crown and shirt to thank me for the mention. How sweet is that?
Take that High-End-Children’s-Clothes-Store-Employee-Who-Thought-Laylee-Was-A-Boy-Today. Heads up: if you want to earn a big sales commission from me, upon finding out that my child is female, please do not ask me if she cut her hair herself.

The haircut is SO cute!
Sh is adorable. I had the same problem when I cut The Girl’s hair short when she was Laylee’s age. Everyone thought the was a boy. And her cut wasn’t nearly as stylish as Laylee’s. The clip looked so cute in her hair, though. No way anyone will think she’s a boy with that in there. The tutu dress was beautiful. My daughter would be drooling over it!
yup, my daughter would get mistaken for a boy, I don’t even think people would notice the cute girly outfits I would put her in, that no mother in her right mind would dress a boy in. She learned rather quickly to not cut her hair on her own and let it grow longer(by quickly I mean when she was in 3rd grade and did it for the last time.)
I also had a sister that looked very cute in pixie cuts. She had the same sweet little face your daughter has. Keep dressing her in that outfit and no one will wonder if she is a boy or a girl. If they do just chalk it up to not really paying attention. 😉

She looks f-a-b-o-l-o-u-s!(spelling courtesy of hip-hop music) I love the pixie cut and think all girls should get one at some point in their lives, they’re easy and awesome!
So what if some people mistake her for a boy, she is so obviously feminine that, as Nettie said, she shouldn’t be mistaken for a boy. AND she seems very secure with her BOY-CUT status, good sense of self-worth, good for her!
That being said, my son, 22 months, has soft blond, ringlet-prone hair so even if he’s in shorts, tennis shoes, and a t-shirt with trucks, motorcycles, or other such manly indicators, people still tell us how beautiful SHE is. I just smile and say yes, HIS hair is amazing and wonder at how we managed to produce such a cute child as hubby and I sure aren’t! It seems to diffuse potential embarrassment.
I have checked out the Tutu Boutique too, if I were having a girl I’d love their stuff! As it stands it looks like I’m gonna stay in the land of dirt encrusted boy-stuff.

I LOVE Laylee’s hair! If I had girls, THAT would be the cut for them! And you can tell her that, on occasion, when I’m in my sweats and makeup-free (which is a lot, actually) I still get mistaken for a boy. Yes, really!

I love the haircut. I wish it would look that great on me. I’ve been tempted to cut my 3yr old’s hair because she refuses to let me ever put anything in it – ponytails, barrettes, etc – so what’s the point of having it long? Maybe Laylee’s haircut will push me over the edge 🙂
Like Mom on the Gulf Coast, my son is often mistaken for a girl. I think it’s because of his big, adorable blue eyes. 🙂

Laylee’s hair is princess perfect, adn she is undeniably 100% girl. I’d like to have that style myself! I recently enjoyed (?) a haircutting extravagnza of my own in which I succeeded in convincing my HUSBAND to cut my hair after spending $50 on what I didn’t exactly have in mind.(It’s so totally not something he would EVER do in his normal life.) Interestingly enough, I’ve gotten more compliments on the hubby cut than the 50bucks cut. But I still can’t decide whether it would be a good thing or not to tell people where I got it done. 🙂

Adorable hair cut. There is no question that she is a girly girl. Meanwhile, I have had the last 7 people that have talked to me about my son refer to him as my “beautiful daughter” despite his consistently navy blue and orange attire.

I went to get my hair cut last night. I realize now that I wanted was Laylee’s hairdo, and I didn’t know how to tell the lady that. I ended up with Carol Brady. Not what I was going for. Laylee’s hair rocks! Mine, not so much…
Oh, what a doll! I’m glad she is so happy and confident with the cut. The one time I got a short cut when I was a kid, I am pretty sure I went home crying. (It didn’t help that I had just gone in asking for a trim – the lady decided to get a little creative.)Laylee is most beautimous.

She’s adorable! Especially with her tutu on. When I got my hair cut a year and a half ago, everyone raved about it…except my verbally abusive boss, who said, “What did you do to your hair?!?! Did you do that yourself?” Gee, thanks.

So cute. She will get the boy questions, though. I had a haircut like that when I was seven – I was wearing a pink miniskirt and helping my mother grocery shop, and a nice man came up and complimented my mom on her helpful SON. I was SOOO offended.
