A Really Keen Giveaway

**A winner has been chosen**

I’ve come to realize that there are 3 kinds of people in this world, those who wear and love Keens, those who covet Keens in a way that Moses would greatly disapprove of, and those who’ve never heard of them.

So for those of you in category 3, here’s a rundown of why I love Keen to encourage you to join categories 1 or 2. If you still need convincing after reading this, visit their new website and I’m sure you’ll be hooked.

1. They’re environmentally and socially responsible. Much of their products are made from reused or recycled material. They use environmentally friendly manufacturing processes, give back to the community, and are working through a Fair Labor certification process. There are so many companies who have jumped on this bandwagon half-heartedly but I get the impression that Keen really means to make a difference in the industry and the world. Their company was founded on these principles 5 years ago and they keep taking their commitment to the next level.
2. They’re based in the Northwest so we’re neighbors and likely soon to be BFFs.
3. Their design is smart and their shoes are well-made, rugged and durable.
4. Handbags. You just have to look. Trust me.
5. Everything they make is gorgeous.
Wear Around MJ
Now you’re asking yourself, “Why is Kathryn giving me a big fat advertisement for Keen?” Firstly because I like em so darn much and secondly because they want to give one of you a Christmas present. An awesome Christmas present, a present of which I am totally jealous in a hypocritical I-enabled-this-so-why-am-I-freaking-out-with-envy sort of way.

Betty BootHead over to the site and look through everything. May I suggest the Ridgelines, Betty Boots, Palermo Boots or Palermo MJs?

How about a pair of classic Newports or Wear Around MJs?

bag_bettyAnd let’s face it. If it were me, I’d spend a good long time checking out their laptop bags and handbags. I’ve particularly got my eye on the Oswego and the Betty bag. The day packs are also delicious but I’d feel like I’d end up sharing them with my family and honestly, who wants that?

So yes. Go to the site. Pick out something you can’t live without and come back here and tell me what it is in the comments section of this post. Next Sunday night I will choose one random winner to rule them all who will receive a coupon code good for one free item of your choice from the Keen website. That’s right ladies and you 3 gentlemen. The winner gets to pick any one thing you want. Squeee! I’m so excited.

Here’s the bonus. If you post about the contest on your own site with a link back to this page, then come back here leaving a second comment with a link to your post, you’ll be entered twice.

But wait. There’s more. When the contest ends, I have a coupon code for everyone else to get free shipping on anything you order from the site.

So everyone wins. And the peasants rejoice. Now go. Window shop. Come back and report your findings.

    http://corisbigmouth.blogspot.com/2008/11/free-shoes-giveaway.html

  13. I’d get the Richmond Mid boots to see me through the winter. I like the ladies’ Napa Boot, too, but they don’t seem to offer wide widths.

i absolutely love my keens. they are my favorite shoes. def want another pair!!!! great giveaway:-)

  21. Jeana says:

Well this is hard. How am I supposed to choose between being propelled to the fringe of nature and letting my cold weather excitement spill over? I ask you. It’s a tough choice, but I think I may have to book my next vacation in the place where fun, freedom and fashion converge.

I’ve never encountered an online store where the descriptions are so fun to read. Do they have a blog?

  22. Lori O. says:

I need a new bag and think I would have to go with the Alameda 15.

  23. Stephanie says:

I love the Betty Bag – in the brown.
Ohhh – that would look nice under the tree.

  24. sarah k. says:

Oh Kathryn, I desperately want those Winthrop boots. And the Palermos are a close second. I will tell you why I deserve to be the winner, so you can channel me during your random choosing: I am terrified of the winter. I’ve been buying up wool sweaters and corduroys from the thrift stores, and asking all the parents and in-laws for silk long johns and wool socks, since those things are apparently desirable enough that people never give them to the thrift stores. I’ve had the same winter shoes for 6 years now, and the faux fur lining is worn right through at the heel and the toes. Because I wear them in the house and out, all winter long. I have some crazy hypersensitivity to cold (somebody suggested the other day that it might be hypothyroidism, which, coincidentally, would explain the depression and panic attacks).

Did you shed a tear for me yet? Should I go on? I’ll throw in the unrelated fact that I gave myself a lye burn the other day while making soap that didn’t turn out.

  25. Fawndear says:

You are so making me break the covet commandment right now. It was too hard chooseing. I’m going to pick the Men’s Ridgeline for my teenage son. And then I’m going to go right ahead and keep breaking that commandment because I want some too. But it would be an awesome Christmas present for my boy.

I will post a link to your contest on my blog sometime today.

    Most Awesome give-away.

  26. Lucy says:

I’m a self-confessed #1 Keen fan. My favorite pair is my Saratoga II, which currently reside at my backdoor as I wear them for the hourly ‘potty’ trips with my furry twins. The twins even love them so much they put their noses inside and take a nap cuddled around them (do my feet stink?). If they use them for a chew toy, there is no evidence. Can they be this rugged? Not that I want to find out. Since this pair is a sexy sling back, I think I’ll go for something completely different to expand my love of Keen’s. A warm pair of boots is on my list. I’m really fond of the Wintrop Boot. DId you notice the corset back (is this a theme for me?). They might be the best thing for a trip to Winthrop – my favorite rustic shopping town. Ever been? I’ll be off to Winthrop in my Winthrops.

  27. Jen says:

I loooove the Amsterdam for my toddler and the Timberline for me 🙂

What a great giveaway! Katherine, you’re all about them lately!

    • I like doing them if I really like the products and if they don’t take over the blog. If it’s getting too much, I hope you’ll tell me because the blogging and content are what I really care about. I just can’t pass up an opportunity to get free stuff for the people who spend time reading this blog.

  28. Liz says:

I have a foot thing and have to buy good shoes, which are always expensive.
I would love to have the BLVD Timberline in orange (Love orange!) They look so comfortable and that my feet wouldn’t hurt at the end of the day.

I also love the green Betty bag.

I will definately link you on my blog!

  29. Sarah says:

    I can’t decide.

Laurel bag. Berkeley clog. Timberline clog.

The check these out too feature is dangerous. I could spend hours on the site checking everything out.

  30. Sarah says:

I linked to your contest on my blog!

  31. I want the Winthrop boot! (It is SO cold here.) And behold, the peasants rejoice.

  32. Cathryn Lane says:

Love the Sidney II. Great site.

  33. I want a pair of those Market Streets in Rust. I’d really really love them.

  34. Jessie says:

I saw these: WINTHROP BOOT and my heart went pitter patter! It’s LOVE! 😀

  35. Mrs Lemon says:

palermo mj in black, size 9.5 please 🙂

  36. Carrie says:

I forgot the name already, but I like the blue mary janes with the laser cut-outs. Either calistoga or charleston, one of those c words 🙂

  37. Sara says:

Oh my. Ever since hearing about them earlier this year, I’ve been wishing for some. I’d love the Palermo or the Sydney, and then there’s the whole Laguna style for ocean kayaking in the summer. But if I’m really nice, and since my toes really aren’t in danger of going naked yet, I’d get my husband either a pair of Lagunas for when he leads kayaking trips or Whistlers because that’s as close as he will get to dress shoes and we live just a few hours from the place for which they are named. And men, including my husband, need more than two pair of shoes outside of mountaineering boots and climbing shoes – no matter what they tell you.

  38. Jolene says:

I love the Laurel bag i nblue – so cute! I also really like the Palermos – they look so comfortable!
Thanks for introducing this company to me – I was in group 3 before but I am totally looking forward to being in group 1 or 2.

  39. Megan says:

I would love the black slate and grayed jade betty boot. I can’t live without them because my in-laws are snow-enthusiasts, and I am not currently prepared. My in-laws own a cabin in the mountains, in the woods that they built (by hand) themselves. They go there for holidays and throughout the year. It is a quiet and beautiful place to go, but until this past weekend I had never been there with significant snow. I’ve heard the stories about their snow ball fights, their sledding (night and day) and their sledding trails weaving amongst the trees – but I had never been a witness or invited to participate. Unfortunately, I don’t have a pair of snow boots, or snow pants, or a good-for-playing-in-the-snow winter coat. I have a pretty, flowy black winter coat and ankle-high fleecy boots… but they get wet and cold pretty quick. My In-laws ALL own knee high boots that snow will never penetrate. I was left out of the fun, relegated to sniper snowball attacks from the protected porch. I desperately need a good pair of snow boots!

  40. Aubrey says:

Wow. These are great shoes. I’d love the wear around MJ, the palermo, or the sienna. These would be awesome to wear working at the hospital – cute but good for my feet!

  41. linda says:

Wow, am I ever having a hard time choosing one thing. I really love the Betty Bag in black slate/grayed jade. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway and the free shipping.

  42. Mary O says:

I like them all, but the Wear Around MJs look great, especially in Port Royale.
    What a great giveaway!

  43. Sara says:

Okay, I’ve plugged it. Thanks again for getting such a fun giveaway. Here’s my link to my post…..http://inklingwrites.blogspot.com/2008/11/very-keen-giveaway.html

    • Did you just comment with this or did you comment telling me what you want too? I want to make sure you get entered twice and there have been a lot of Sara/Sarahs today.

      • Sara says:

This is my second comment. I forgot to put my link to the first comment, but here is the text of the first comment that I wrote at 8:05 a.m. your time today….

“Oh my. Ever since hearing about them earlier this year, I’ve been wishing for some. Sorry about that. Oh, and I don’t know why my link didn’t show up as an actual link…guess I have a lot to learn about properly commenting.

  44. Mary Jenkins says:

I want the sienna ballerina shoes in black! Keen rocks!

    quitecontrary1977@hotmail.com

  45. The Winthrop boot rocks and I need new boots bad. Though the Palermo MJ in brown are just adorable!

  46. ColleenM says:

I would pick the betty boot in nile color. They are so cute!

  47. Molly Novak says:

I am so into these shoes and how great they would be for my kids but also our world… These are so cool. You always find fun new items to look at… Thans Katy! I am in the need of winter boots for my boys… I always try to get good things since I plan for at lease 2 boys to use them… 😉 I love how the winterport has some much insulation, good up to -25° F. The boys always start to cry when the fingers and toes start to sting. And the Easy slip-on design with bungee lace makes it so James can do it on his own…SO NIce! I think I will have to put these on our Santa list. Thanks for sharing. you Rock!

  48. Oh goodness. How to choose one thing? I have been really wanting some cute, comfortable versatile shoes I could wear with everything. Probably the Palermo MJ, the Wear Around MJ, or the Sienna Ballerina. Getting more specific than that will be tough at this point. I hope I win! Awesome prize.

  49. I’ve been looking for new shoes for 2 years now (seriously). I think I could find happiness with Keen. Thanks for moving me out of category 3! I like the Wear Around MJs or the Palermo MJs. But I suppose I don’t have to choose for real unless I win, do I? 🙂
