Then you should join me for lunch today. I just boiled some noodles for about 45 minutes before I remembered they were on the stove. They are now drinkable and have lost all nutritional value. I’d be happy to share.
On Wednesday Laylee and I were doing step aerobics, I on my stepper and Laylee on the bathroom stool. Laylee was hardcore, arms pumping, bouncing, huffing and puffing. I was rendered temporarily blind by the sweat glistening down my face and into my eyes.
As the blindness set in, Perky Aerobics Lady worked us up to a frenzy of complicated, lung-crushing moves and told us that we were doing great. I’m surprised she had time to notice little ol’ us when she was currently leading women in thousands of homes across the country but maybe she’s magic… like Santa Claus. We were doing very well. No coal’s gonna be shoved in MY orthopedic insoles.
A moment later, PA Lady beamed, “If you want to make it harder…..” and Laylee yelled, “Ugh! I don’t want to make it HARDER!”
“Me neither Laylee. Why would anyone want to make it harder?”
Later we had a talk about how sometimes hard things can be fun, discussion led by me. (I had finished working out and, having regained my sight and my breath, was feeling like a fitness goddess by this time.)
I believe it’s true that some of the hardest things in life are the most rewarding but I also think sometimes we make things harder then they need to be.
Just left a comment on your article. Great points.
Loved the pic of the aerobics princess living in your midst. 🙂
Have a fun weekend,
Michelle
Laylee is hilarious! I made her a present yesterday! ‘Cause I’m very inventive when it comes to avoiding all that huffing and puffing, and whiling away hours with a crochet hook is way more appealing to me. If she whines over you leaving tomorrow, you can tell her that a complete stranger got bored one night and made her a pretty present. =P
See you tomorrow! (I just love being able to say that today!)
I thought I was the only one with mushy pasta. I mush–I mean MUST–have done that three times in the last two weeks.
Nice to know I’m not compltely alone.
I always have liked the motto “I can do hard things.” But “sometimes hard things can be fun”? Wow.
THANK YOU, thank you, and take a bow: it’s good to hear your spunky take on reality, especially with your grace and humor. Enough of the woe-is-me mentality on motherhood. It’s hard. Did anyone ever tell us it would not be?! It’s also a heck of a lot more interesting than any other adventure in life.
I think it’s human nature to make things harder than they should be. We might have the need to accomplish something hard so we make it that way to have a sense of accomplishment. In the computer world there is a saying: K.I.S.S.
Even if we have a timer to remind us that something is cooking, we seldom use it and end up with mushy pasta or something that was suppose to be pasta so we can try our best to make it edible.
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get to that portion of a workout video again without giggling.
Noodles have nutritional value?
Love that picture of Lalee!! It was so fun watching you on Tuesday too!
I think I will pass on the liquid noodles and on the fried oysters. However, any time you want to drive to downtown for a waffle cone (as long as it doesn’t take them 10 minutes to make one) I am all over it!
Ah, the waffle cone occurrence of ’07. May it never occur again this year – waffle cones should be instantly available at all times.
I had an awesome time with you today. I hope we can get together again soon. 🙂
Your last few lines are so true- why do we do that? Make things harder than they have to be- must be all the mushy noodles we eat…
